Mark Waid is another of Marvel's star writers, so it only makes sense that he got given the keys to one of the biggest titles from the Star Wars relaunch.

Leia is just that book, and it's another that finds itself sitting in the period between Episodes IV and V. Waid really gets into the character's head and takes the time to thoroughly analyse the impact Alderaan's destruction had on her, crafting a story that sees the hero track down the planet's diaspora before the Empire can.

It only lasted five issues, but again, its short length makes it all the more easy to digest and enjoy. Waid crams a whole lot into those five issues and, much like Anakin and Obi-Wan, it's a story that had to be told. It provides closure to Leia's past and reminds us that, while yes, the princess is formidable, that steely exterior masks a tragic backstory.
