Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 11 Reasons It's Awesome

2. The Visual Effects Are Stunning

The Last Jedi makes considerably better use of visual effects than either The Force Awakens or Rogue one did, the former suffering slightly from an iffy CGI Snoke and general lack of imagination, while Rogue One's CGI Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia were highly criticised by many fans.

However, The Last Jedi uses cutting-edge visual effects to far more striking effect, aided hugely by Rian Johnson's knack for iconic, statuesque imagery that makes the most of the tools available to him.

Given that many fans were worried about Snoke being a performance-captured character, the end result is extremely impressive: Andy Serkis' performance combines with some eye-wateringly lifelike effects to make Snoke feel like a living, breathing character rather than a clear digital creation.

That the film has already been shortlisted for the Best Visual Effects Oscar is no surprise at all.
