Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 11 Reasons It's Awesome
4. The World-Building Is Excellent
One of The Force Awakens' most disappointing aspects was its fairly lackluster attempt at world-building. Jakku was basically a reprise of Tatooine, and a lot of the movie's other major imagery, such as Maz's Castle and the Starkiller Base, felt like blatant riffs on iconography from A New Hope.
The Last Jedi generally feels like it offers a more diverse smorgasbord of the Star Wars universe, most prominently during a sequence where several characters visit the planet Canto Bight, which contains a casino frequented by the universe's rich and powerful elite.
The sheer diversity of the alien creatures on the planet proves highly entertaining, and while this entire sequence is arguably the most disposable in the entire movie, it nevertheless avoids feeling like just another Cantina-esque reprise.
Instead, it carves out an individual style and tone for itself, and is one of the series' best-executed glimpses into the wider Star Wars world.
