Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 23 WTF Moments

5. How Vain Is Luke?

Eventually, just as all hope seems to be lost, Luke Skywalker appears at the base on Crait to inspire the surviving rebels by striding out to take on Kylo Ren's entire army alone. It's the kind of unprecedented act of heroism that only a real Chosen One could manage, and the sort of legend that entire rebellions are based on.

Only, it's not really Luke Skywalker - it's a Force projection of him sent in from the real Luke on Ahch-To, designed to be a distraction to let the rebels escape.

It's ingenious, but there's something slightly odd about the fact that Luke doesn't project himself as he is - he sends a de-aged, less grey version, presumably so he looks more fearsome. But in reality, having a more frail looking Jedi simply brushing off Ren's barrage would be even more effective to that agenda, so Luke's decision to look good in battle might come down to mere vanity.
