Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 23 WTF Moments
3. Luke's Plan Relies On Ridiculous Contrivances
The ingenious plan to send in a projection to distract Kylo Ren so the rebels can escape is one of the most complex and contrived in the history of Star Wars, simply because it has to rely on so many coincidences and dumb luck.
The sensible version would have seen Luke's projection actually reveal that he was a distraction (even if he didn't reveal he was a projection), as nobody would have stopped him anyway and it would have been far more efficient. Instead, Luke had to rely on the crystal critters seeking security in the base, for BB-8's scan of the cave to not pick up the other entrance, for Poe Dameron to work out - umprompted - that he was a distraction, AND for Kylo Ren to be over-zealous with his barrage. If even one of those things didn't work, he would have used up his last energy pointlessly.
Also, the justification for there definitely being a rear exit is seemingly that if Luke could get in there must be a way. But Luke never got in - he was a projection - and it's a remarkable coincidence that there actually even WAS a back-door for Poe to completely wrongly assume exists.
