17. Maz Is Literally No Help

In The Force Awakens, it was pretty much established that Maz Kanata is one of the most powerful active characters in the entire universe. She's Force-sensitive, telepathic to some degree and can use telekinesis (though the confirmation of that was left on the cutting room floor). Basically, she's a big deal, so it's no surprise that the Resistance would rely on her gifts once more.

Unfortunately for them, Maz is far less useful this time out than she once was. Her only part in the film is one vaguely comedic scene in which she appears via hologram call to half-give Finn, Poe and Rose the key information they need to find a master hacker.

She leaves the information so vague - saying only that their target will be wearing an ornate red flower on his lapel - that she might as well have not said anything. It's not like the assistance helps, anyway, as beyond seeing Justin Theroux's character for a few brief moments, we learn precisely nothing about him and Finn and Rose completely accidentally stumble upon Benicio Del Toro's DJ after they're arrested, who they just decide to trust anyway.

You have to wonder why Johnson bothered to cast Theroux at all, or if there was some sort of missing scene revealing why he was wearing the flower brooch and not DJ, because it can't simply have been that there were TWO master hackers in one place at once. That'd be coincidental to the point of idiocy.
