Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 31 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

28. The New AT-ATs

The new AT-ATs that appear in the film, called AT-M6s, have a distinctly different design to the original version of the vehicle, most notably that their legs are much thicker and reinforced with armour, meaning they can't be felled with tow cables, as happened in the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back.

Furthermore, while the original AT-ATs had suction cup-like feet, the AT-M6's feet were designed to resemble gorilla's paws, allowing them greater maneuverability on harsh terrain. The gorilla influence is also noticeable with the new model's overly hunched shoulders.

27. Leia's Classic Hologram

Though the appearance of the classic Princess Leia hologram certainly isn't subtle, it is a fun callback to the earlier days of the series. With Leia's hologram begging, "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope", it's especially poignant to see Luke being reminded of the very beginning of his journey.

Though Luke eventually agrees to help out, he's certainly aware that he's being emotionally blackmailed by R2-D2, calling it a "cheap trick".
