Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 31 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See
26. DJ = "Don't Join"
Considering how secretive Lucasfilm was about Benicio del Toro's role ahead of The Last Jedi's release, it's pretty surprising that it's actually quite inconsequential, if entertaining, at the end of the day.
His character's name is never actually mentioned in the film, but he's credited merely as "DJ", a seemingly throwaway name the meaning of which is in fact made clear to those paying close attention.
After explaining to Finn and Rose that the ship he stole belonged to a weapons dealer who sold arms to both the First Order and the Resistance, DJ tells the pair that the only smart thing to do is "don't join". Don't join = DJ. Get it?
This might seem coincidental in of itself, but it's backed up by the fact that the hat DJ wears is adorned with a metal plate, which is engraved with Aurebesh characters that spell out, you guessed it, "Don't join."
25. Red Tails
When the dilapidated Resistance speeders race towards the AT-M6s during the Battle of Crait, they dig up the planet's red surface beneath its salty exterior, flinging it into the air behind them.
While this might just seem like a neat visual to contrast with Crait's pale white surroundings, there's actually a little more to it than that. The fact that the red planet dust trails behind the speeders, almost looking like exhaust fumes, is most certainly a reference to Red Tails, the 2012 war film created and produced by, yes, George Lucas.
Considering that Lucas' movie is itself about the Air Force, the reference seems even more intentional.
