Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 6 Possible Meanings Behind The New Title

5. Rey Is The Last Jedi

Whether Luke makes it to the end of The Last Jedi or not, the end of The Force Awakens set it up so that Rey becomes the last person to be welcomed into the Jedi order. She clearly has far more meaning than being a simple legacy character, and while carrying the burden of an entire order would test a desert junker who is out of her depth already, we've already seen flashes that she deserves the title and the responsibility.

Despite many old and new characters in The Force Awakens, the stage was set for Rey to become the lead character of the new trilogy, so to name the next film after her would prepare everyone for The Last Jedi to save the day and return balance to the Force.

The question here would be why she would be considered the "last": if she were to pass on her teachings after presumably vanquishing the latest rise of the Empire, she would surely pass on the Jedi title too. So is this an indication that the name dies with her? Surely, Disney wouldn't kill off their new hero when they could very easily extend the Star Wars universe into another trilogy entirely...?
