Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 6 Possible Meanings Behind The New Title
2. It Refers To Someone We Wouldn't Expect
There is, of course, a chance that The Last Jedi isn't Luke, or Rey at all. Perhaps it is one of the new characters we are yet to meet, or Kylo Ren, or Maz Katana. Given how many conspiracy theories exist around Snoke, it wouldn't be surprising if he was suggested too. Or it could be someone from the past, who was thought long dead...?
Whilst not a twist of the level of "I am your father", it would pull the rug from under our feet if The Last Jedi centred around a supporting character, or someone new. Luke and Rey might have to protect the last Jedi in order to ensure the survival of the light side of The Force, or if someone like Snoke is The Last Jedi, Luke sees what the true Jedi Order became - Snoke might be similar to Lucifer, in that he is a fallen Jedi and was corrupted into the exact opposite of what the Jedi represent.
To examine the Jedi in this thematic way would be a bold move. However, to reveal Kylo Ren as the last Jedi, and have Rey fall from grace would be a fascinating way to subvert everyone's expectations, and add new dimensions to both their characters, setting the stage for an operatic showdown in Episode IX.
