Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 8 Parents J.J. Most Likely Wanted For Rey

4. Snoke

Snoke is the other big mystery box Abrams introduced in Force Awakens, except the response to this one is even more nonsensical. Snoke appears in all of two scenes in the film and basically just serves as the new Emperor. He tells Kylo Ren some stuff about the dark side and the light via hologram and then doesn't really factor into the story at all.

But because it's Star Wars, this launched a thousand and one theories about who Snoke could be. In the end, Last Jedi answered this in a similar fashion. He was killed off midway through the film, proving it didn't really matter who he was.

Abrams' use of Snoke is certainly a bit of a tease, building him up as a Thanos-like character; the bigger bad guy behind it all. So an interesting route that was surely explored by Abrams at one point or another was to have Rey somehow be Snoke's creation. Whether that was by being his daughter (Snoke sex sounds gross but to each his own) or having Snoke will her into existence via the Force, ala the way Darth Plagueis willed Anakin into existence in deleted sections of Lucas' Episode III script.

This dynamic would have been a mirror of the Vader/Luke dynamic from the original trilogy while also serving as the 'twist' answer to both of Abrams' proposed mystery boxes, for better or worse.
