Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 8 Parents J.J. Most Likely Wanted For Rey

3. Han Solo

Luke Skywalker Rey
Lucasfilm

In Force Awakens, Han Solo gets to have a lot of screentime with Rey. He finds her and Finn aboard the Millenium Falcon, picks them up, and acts as a mentor to both of them for the remainder of the film's runtime. In fact, Solo essentially gets to fill the Obi-Wan Kenobi role from A New Hope, being the mentor who imparts valuable lessons right up until he gets cut down by a dude with a red lightsaber.

But there is another wrinkle, in the sense that Solo is very much a father figure to Rey, specifically. He takes care of her, offers her a job on the Falcon, and even seems to know a bit more than he's letting on when Maz Kanata asks him "who's the girl?".

All of this can come off a lot like Abrams setting up Rey as a long-lost daughter or Han, Leia, or both. This would have made Rey and Kylo long-lost siblings, a twisted mirror of the Luke/Leia relationship from the original trilogy. Separated at a young age, rediscovering their relationship for themselves.

There are even some further hints towards this in the novelization of the film, in which Kylo seems to recognize Rey and her Force abilities when she uses them on Starkiller Base.
