The Force Awakens delighted Star Wars fans by bringing saga legends Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo and Chewie back to the fore, but will The Last Jedi continue this trend by reintroducing more of them, or continue to kill them off?

The existence of Force Ghosts in the Star Wars universe paves the way for all kinds of Jedi cameos, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Yoda, and sure enough, rumours suggest the latter pair will show up in the sequel.

There is no hint of this in the trailers, which could mean one of two things: these characters play a significant role in the story that the filmmakers don't want to spoil, or reports of their involvement are hogwash.

Anakin, in particular, could have an important part to play in The Last Jedi from beyond the grave. Kylo Ren idolises his dead grandfather and a ghostly visit from him could be enough to steer him onto a different path.

Vader had completed his redemption by the end of Return of the Jedi and it's widely believed he fulfilled the original trilogy's prophesy when he killed Emperor Palpatine, but maybe his Chosen One duties aren't quite completed yet.

There's also a possibility that Snoke's backstory could somehow be entwined in Darth Vader's past. There are still more questions than answers surrounding his midichlorian-centric conception described in The Phantom Menace. Could Snoke be the missing link there?
