Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Reactions - 8 Ups & 2 Downs
3. The Darkness

It's almost criminal that's it's taken this long here to mention the old "Star Wars rhymes" mantra, but there you go. Sometimes things don't go as you expect...
Given that The Empire Strikes Back is the darkest film in the original trilogy, it makes sense that The Last Jedi would be in this series, and since The Force Awakens was already pretty dark by the end, we can definitely expect its follow-up to dial up the doom quite markedly.
The trailer sells that all wonderfully: there are hero moments, but they come nestled in amongst flashes of peril, with a deeply ominous atmosphere and a nagging sense that not everyone is going to get out of this alive. An increased sense of threat is good - particularly as it gives a hint of Life After Vader in Snoke - and as much as they're all our favourite characters, it's good to feel like not everyone is safe. That's the purest recipe for impact and excitement there is in movies.
