Now, perhaps you'll think it's a little unfair to look back at the preceding film so much when it comes to judging a final trailer for a new movie, but isn't this trailer a little bit of a Jedi mind trick when it comes to that film's key plot details?

At the end of The Last Jedi, the Rebels are reduced to tiny numbers, the First Order has suffered another almighty blow in their dominion efforts, Kylo Ren appears to be a little rudderless and Luke Skywalker is dead. This trailer might as well ignore absolutely all of that in a way that's so provocative it feels like a conscious effort to reassure people who didn't like The Last Jedi that it doesn't matter.

The major narrative beats are steamrolled over and this doesn't feel so much like a continuation of The Last Jedi as an alternative to it.
