Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Final Trailer Review - 8 Ups & 5 Downs

5. It's A Little Disjointed, Narratively

Right, indulge me: could you tell me, in any sort of specific terms what this film is actually about? Ignore the leaks.

All you really come up with is that Kylo Ren and Rey are at war, that the Rebels and the Empire are too and that the Emperor is back, somehow. We don't get anything beyond a vague handwave to the overall plot and while it's refreshing to not see a vast amount of spoilers, the lack of detail and definition comes at a cost. In actual fact, the result is that this is one of the weakest Star Wars trailers ever released, for all of its good points.

It isn't unreasonable to want a bit more story than we're given here and nor would it have come at any cost to the film. And it definitely feels like anyone undecided on seeing it or more "casual" fans might be a little alienated by how vague it is.

We're told this is the end of the Skywalker Saga. We're told that this is a continuation of Rey's story. We're told that this is a trilogy. And yet, this trailer doesn't really feel like this is a follow-up to The Last Jedi. In actual fact, it feels a little like it could even be sold as a reboot, such is the narrative vacuum in there...
