Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Final Trailer Review - 8 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The Emotion

And continuing on a similar thread, as well as piling on these evocative moments and despite the spirit of hope that seems to permeate the whole thing, the trailer sells the broad idea of emotion very well. In the crudest of terms, the teaser spells out that we are going to genuinely feel things, which you'd sort of expect for a finale like this. That expectation doesn't in any way sully the pleasure of seeing it confirmed in the trailer.

There are definite moments of threat and peril, there are brief flashes of joy and charm and the atmospherics around Palpatine and Kylo Ren are very well played, too. In the absence of detail and some key narrative beats, seeing the characters clearly going through some stuff is a reasonable substitute.

Again, this is more a mood board than an exercise in story and while that WILL frustrate some, given the context of the film's status at the box office already, it's probably the right way to balance the trailer. Even if the balance could still have been a little better.
