Star Wars: The WORST Scene In Every Skywalker Saga Film
3. The Force Awakens: Starkiller Base Is Fully Operational
Disney's sequel trilogy is a mixture of great and bad moments, rising to incredible highs and sinking to embarrassing lows. The Force Awakens, thankfully, is generally a pretty solid film.
However, one valid criticism of Episode Seven is that it does sometimes stray too close to being a rehash of A New Hope for its own good. The scene where Starkiller Base is fired for the first time is pretty solid evidence of this.
In A New Hope, we know that Alderaan is Princess Leia's home planet, so it plays as an emotionally charged moment when it's totally destroyed by the Death Star. It shows the audience just how evil the Galactic Empire can be and how big of a threat they are.
But when Starkiller Base destroys multiple planets in The Force Awakens, we don't really feel anything because we haven't been given a reason to care. None of the destroyed worlds are even named in the film and so, while it does show that the First Order is willing to commit genocide, we don't feel the full weight of this action. It makes the whole scene feel somewhat anti-climatic and like a poor man's version of the destruction of Alderaan.
