Stephen King's “It”: 10 Things The Remake Must Get Right
8. The Children Can't Be Irritating
Children in movies can be a tough thing to get right. For as many convincing, non-obtrusive performances there are there's twice as many child actors that go slightly too far, becoming so animated that they're grating at best and downright unlikable at worst.
Of course, whether or not this has the potential to ruin a film depends on what the child's role is and how long they're on-screen. In the case of It, it's literally the story of a group of seven children, so it's safe to say we're going to be seeing a lot of them.
The most significant thing, then, is that the children (most of whom are relative newcomers like Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard and Jeremy Ray Taylor) are natural and likeable. Important too is the chemistry between them: a sense of friendship and comradery will only make the appearance of Pennywise more dramatic.
