Despite current world events, James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is still set to be released next August. The filmmaker has confirmed that post-production is taking place remotely, while shooting finished long before productions were forced to close down. It's expected to serve as a reboot of the franchise, albeit with some of the characters from the first instalment (Harley Quinn, for example).

Surely, though, he doesn't want a competing Suicide Squad movie also coming out in 2021? "I'd be okay with whatever [David Ayer] [and] Warners wanted to release with that no problem," he recently admitted to a fan on Twitter, confirming that this original cut being seeing wouldn't be an issue.

That's certainly unexpected (a surprised Ayer responded with "James, I really appreciate that, however this crazy ride unfolds"), especially if David Ayer's Suicide Squad is no better than the theatrical version. After all, moviegoers sitting through a crappy Suicide Squad movie before The Suicide Squad is released isn't exactly going to heighten interest in the sequel. If it's good, though, it could help it!
