When set photos for Suicide Squad first started doing the rounds, it looked like there could be a romantic angle to Deadshot and Harley Quinn's relationship. They certainly ended up growing close in the movie itself, but that's as far as it went. As it turns out, there was indeed supposed to be more to this friendship than met the eye in cinemas.

"Harley and Deadshot hooked up as a couple," the filmmaker confirms. "This was changed during reshoots." Why the change? He doesn't elaborate, but common sense says it was because the way the ending was changed with The Joker coming back to rescue Harley Quinn from Belle Reve Prison.

Will Smith isn't returning for The Suicide Squad, so it could be for the best this didn't happen, and Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey obviously would have been a much different film had this not been cut.

Oh, and for those of you underwhelmed by how things ended for Diablo, Ayer would use this same Tweet to tell fans that in his version of Suicide Squad, "Diablo survived originally." Ouch.
