Suicide Squad: 10 Reasons It Will Save The DC Cinematic Universe

5. Expectations Are Low

There were many things that hurt Man Of Steel, but one of the biggest has to be the hype that surrounded it. With trailers released before The Dark Knight Rises promising a meditative, Nolan/Mallick-style movie, expectations shot through the roof. If The Dark Knight Trilogy was how a hero could be made in the real world, then Man Of Steel would show how the real world would react to a genuine superhero. Except it didn't. The film was Zack Snyder picture through and through, just shot with a grainy filter. Now it would probably have proven just as divisive without all the excitement, but the way it derailed hopes made everything more polarised. Suicide Squad doesn't have that issue, at least not to the same extent. There's no big-screen legacy for any of the team's key players and half of the cast are complete unknowns, meaning that while this comes under the same banner as Batman V Superman and Man Of Steel, it doesn't carry the same level of excitement, promoting more regulated expectations (and more glowing praise when they're met). The only real loose cannon is the Joker, who naturally gets audiences excited, but that was the same case with The Dark Knight and that turned out alright.
