11. The Joker Isn't Restricted To Flashbacks

The synopsis EW have posted confirmed The Joker's role, saying he's "throwing a spanner in the works" of the Task Force X's mission because of his own agenda to take back Harley Quinn.

It's only a sentence, but the implications are huge. The biggest, of course is that his role clearly isn't all restricted to flash-backs, as had been previously suggested. That changes the entire dynamic of the film, and effectively turns him into an adversary of the Squad.

That also means The Joker isn't incarcerated, and isn't going to be the Hannibal Lecter figure as initially suggested. There were obviously shots of him locked away in Arkham Asylum (in what looks like Harley's origin flashback), but he clearly gets out. And if that is the case, then there has to be a reason that Batman isn't still going after him (given that this follows BvS).

The answer to that probably lies in the car crash sequence: does Batman think the Joker is dead? That would be the only way he'd allow him to operate enough to rebuild his team and try to derail Task Force X.
