Suicide Squad 2: 10 Comics James Gunn Should Adapt

5. Apokolips Now!

Wonder Woman Harley Quinn Suicide Squad
DC Comics

One of the best things from the first run of the Suicide Squad was a naturally rotating cast, so when the amnesiac Female Fury Lashina joined, it wasn't exactly weird. She would quickly become a powerhouse member and a pivotal asset to the team for several issues. However, it was all a ploy for her master plan.

From issues #33-36, Lashina coerces or outright kidnaps members of the Suicide Squad to offer them up to Granny Goodness. This leads to an all out war between the Suicide Squad and the forces of Apokolips, leading to some Squad members dying, as well as Lashina failing at her goal of upping her status in the Female Furies. Amanda Waller facing down Granny Goodness is worth the price of admission alone, and with Ava DuVernay's New Gods movie almost certainly set to feature the villain, there's a chance this meeting could happen somewhere down the line.

On the more human side of things, this is also the story that would bring tragedy to Amanda Waller, and it's where Oracle's identity was first revealed. It's such an emotional moment that, despite all the horrors she encounters on a daily basis, even The Wall breaks down.

Both aspects of this story would translate exquisitely to the screen. The DCEU has already introduced the New Gods with Steppenwolf and the Mother Box in the Justice League movie, so it would be feasible that the Suicide Squad would be able to enter the cosmic space race with a Female Fury on the team.
