Suicide Squad 2: 10 Things That Will Make It Awesome
1. A Better Villain
Have a read of pretty much any critic review for Suicide Squad, and they all agree on one thing; Cara Delevingne's Enchantress was not a strong antagonist. Delevingne is a talented actress, but here she was limited to either CGI spellcasting or a helpless damsel in distress as June Moone - and neither side of her character was particularly appealing.
Perhaps it was her scheme, which wasn't really clear. She wanted to destroy the world with a machine, because people now worship machines? When was the last time you saw someone bow to their PS4? Was that blue portal meant to be the machine she was building? Why didn't she just kill the Suicide Squad when she clearly had the power to do so?
They say that a movie is only as good as its villain, and Suicide Squad did not have a great one - as a result, this is the biggest area that the sequel needs to work on. Look at some of the best comic-book movies of all time - the best parts of those movies involve the villains! Heath Ledger's Joker, Loki, Doctor Octupus... they all define the franchises in which they appear.
In order for Suicide Squad to take things up a notch next time round, it needs a solid villain to complement the solid heroes the first movie has. Just please, give us something besides a painfully mediocre dancing goddess that looks like an extra from The Scorpion King.
