Suicide Squad: 30 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

3. ARGUS (And Griggs)

Suicide Squad Easter Eggs
DC Comics

The shady government agency ARGUS are mentioned a few times in official documents seen in the film, bringing one of DC comics' biggest organisations into the film universe.

ARGUS is basically DC's equivalent of SHIELD, which was introduced by The New 52 and is led by Amanda Waller and Steve Trevor (who of course is being played by Chris Pine in Wonder Woman).

David Ayer actually teased the organisation's involvement before release...

Why's it called ARGUS? Well officially it's an acronym, but it got its name from the Greek myth of Argus Panoptes, a giant with hundreds of eyes - the gag being that both he and the organisation were all-seeing. In a strange cyclical fashion, Argus also leant his traditional design to the Eyes of the Adversary.

And there's another link to Trevor too. Comic relief and porn fan Ike Barinholtz plays Captain Griggs, no doubt named after Keith Griggs, the character from DC Comics who fought alongside Steve Trevor. Nice call-back.
