Suicide Squad: 5 Things Critics Got Right, 5 Things They Got Wrong
8. The Villain Sucks
RIGHT.
This section is going to venture into mild spoiler territory, in that I'm going to have to talk about who the villain is, which has not been officially announced. It's not really much of a spoiler in the context of the film, but if you don't want to know anything, then skip to the next entry.
Still here?
There are actually two villains in Suicide Squad and you have seen them both in the trailers. The one you've seen attacking the subway train in the promotional footage is Incubus, brother of the film's other villain, Enchantress. Together, they form one of the worst antagonistic duos in comic book movie history.
Their motivations are little more than "we must destroy mankind, because reasons." Enchantress spawns a horde of literally faceless monsters for the Suicide Squad to easily dispatch. By the time the Squad reaches Enchantress and Incubus for a final battle, both baddies have spent so much time looking and acting like cheap Imhotep ripoffs that they can't be taken seriously.
Billed as "Bad vs. Evil," Suicide Squad does not really deliver on the second part.
