Suicide Squad: 5 Things Critics Got Right, 5 Things They Got Wrong
5. DC Films Still Aren't Any Fun
WRONG.
In the wake of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, certain buzzwords are just easy to toss into a bad review. Words like "joyless," "dark," and "cheerless" are once again showing up in reviews for a DC Films entry. For Suicide Squad, it seems like those words were used based on habit, not merit.
There is fun to be had in Suicide Squad. It may not have all the quippy goodness of other superhero films, but the film definitely has its own twisted sense of fun. More often than not, the film's sense of humor works well within the sensibilities of its premise and characters.
Sure, the movie is still dark, but what should we reasonably expect from a film in which villains are forced to be heroes? Suicide Squad is meant to allow its audience to have a good time being bad. It reaches that goal often enough and many moviegoers will have a good time with it.
