Suicide Squad: 5 Ups & 5 Downs From Trailer 2

4. Oh, Just Shut Up About Superman

So maybe this is a personal gripe based on Batman v Superman's issues with the presentation of Superman, but I can't be the only one who thought the "what if Superman decided to rip the roof off the White House" line was unnecessary.

We all get that Zack Snyder has lots of disdain for the traditional, "American as apple pie" image of the red and blue boy scout, but endlessly retreading the same path is entirely pointless. And having a third DC movie in a row that asks the same question (no matter how minimally it will affect the narrative) is hardly progressive.

All it means is that you immediately leap to the conclusion that Suicide Squad 2 will be about the moral implications of deploying a team of supervillains and the true collateral cost of their missions. Too many superhero movies now have this distracting conscience that is actually destroying the genre by becoming way too self-referential.

Also, there's literally nobody on the Suicide Squad who could hope to stop Superman if he decided to pop the President like a zit.
