Suicide Squad: 9 Deleted Scenes That Would Have Definitely Improved The Film
2. Extended Bar Sequence
The Deleted Scene: You saw and loved it in the trailers, but there was originally a much longer cut in the bar sequence, with the gang getting their drinks and generally bantering. This preceded the more serious talk - Deadshot lamenting their failure (why they'd be blamed I don't know) and El Diablo really bringing the mood down - and seemed to lighten the mood.
Why It Would Have Improved The Movie: The middle stretch is really lacking in any breezy character moments, and this would have provided that by the helicopter load. We get to see how the characters actually are, rather than just being told what their personality is, and have some understanding of why the team would ultimately band together. That this wasn't in the movie was a major disappointment, turning a scene made as a respite - you don't set something in a bar if it's not meant to be fun - into a trawl.
So, Why Was It Cut? The previous explanations of focus on the ensemble doesn't really cut it here - this is the ultimate team-building - so instead it appears to be more about plot focus. Which is hilarious given how flippant the story is treated throughout and how ineffective the emotional reveals left in this sequence are in the finished product.
