Suicide Squad: How To Fix The 5 Biggest Casting Mistakes

2. Rick Flagg

Who's Playing Him? Joel Kinnaman Why Shouldn't It Be Him? Who? Oh, you know Joel Kinnaman. He was Alex Murphy in the RoboCop reboot. You don't remember the RoboCop reboot? Erm... Samuel L. Jackson was in it... OK, there's your big problem with Kinnaman as the leader of Task Force X - he's so utterly forgettable he acts as a time black hole on any project he works on. Suicide Squad as a whole is big enough to escape his pull, but the character of Rick Flagg is less likely to. Who Should It Be Instead? Karl Urban Why? Well, obviously Rick Flagg should be Tom Hardy - he was part of the original casting announcement and a key element in showing there was some smarts to this production. Sadly, he pulled out due to The Revenant overrunning (and not, as many suspected, over an iffy script) and the role was passed through Jake Gyllenhaal before landing on Kinnaman's lap. In lieu of those two incredible actors offered the role, the best pick would be Karl Urban. Dredd himself was linked to the film back early in pre-production, but quickly disappeared from rumours, which is a real shame; once you hear his name suggested, it's hard to shake that he'd be a perfect fit.
