Suicide Squad: How To Fix The 5 Biggest Casting Mistakes

1. Deadshot

Who's Playing Him? Will Smith Why Shouldn't It Be Him? Will Smith has only one acting setting - Will Smith. Ever since he realised he could take his arrogance and turn it into cocky charisma, he's been riding the same basic performance. And when he tries to be different, he's still Will Smith. In I Am Legend he's Will Smith not making jokes. In After Earth he's Will Smith pulling a scowl. In Focus he's Will Smith only he swears. That doesn't bode well for bad guy Deadshot (suggesting he too is a casting choice made for appearance reasons) Who Should It Be Instead? Terrence Howard Why? Literally anybody else could be cast as Deadshot and it'd be an improvement on Smith, but for the sake of picking just one name I'm going to pick Terrence Howard. The hard part with casting Deadshot is that most of the actors who would be a perfect fit are tied up in other superhero franchises and thus immediately unavailable, but Howard is famously detached from Marvel and fits the broad notes of the version of the character Smith's been cast for. He's got a chill to him, but underneath that is an intensity that suits the master marksman. And with Empire an unexpected success he's the right profile to lead a superhero (well, villain) flick.
