Suicide Squad: Ranking The Characters By Anticipation

5. Deadshot

Played By: Will Smith. Who's Will Smith? The Fresh Prince, of course. Even outside of that, everyone knows him thanks to roles in films like Bad Boys and its sequel, the Men in Black trilogy, Independence Day, I, Robot, I Am Legend, Ali, and more. When Smith was cast, a number of people on the Internet voiced their concerns that he would ultimately overshadow the rest of the Squad considering his star status. There's little doubt that Deadshot isn't going to be one of the film's major characters - and Smith is signed on for a much larger future in the DCEU - but, by all accounts, Smith has been a total team player off-screen, being a large part of the cast's publicized camaraderie. It seems as though the character will be vying for a leadership position and causing friction between himself and Flag, along with having some sort of personal arc with Harley Quinn, all of which will add even more layers of inner conflict within the Squad befitting the volatile nature of the whole endeavor. Ideally, Smith can tap into something more akin to his performance in the first half of I Am Legend rather than something like After Earth or one of his more larger-than-life earlier characters to help keep Lawton grounded and believable, especially if he's armed with his comic counterpart's intrinsic death wish.
