Sundance Film Festival 2023: 20 Movies You Need To Know About

3. Rye Lane

Raine Allen-Miller's startling feature debut Rye Lane is sure to be compared to Richard Linklater's Before movies, focused as it is on two twenty-somethings (Vivian Oparah and David Jonsson) connecting over the course of a dramatic day.

But the details make all the difference - Rye Lane is set in South London and stars two Black potential lovers - ensuring that Allen-Miller's easy charmer stands out in a genre that typically struggles to innovate.

Clocking in at a tight 82 minutes and spending every second of that runtime on the breezy chemistry between its leads, Rye Lane is one of the most impressive debuts of the entire fest - and that's really saying something.

Rye Lane releases on Star/Hulu on March 31st.
