Sundance Film Festival 2023: 20 Movies You Need To Know About

2. The Eternal Memory

Talk to Me
Chicken and Egg Pictures

Don't be remotely surprised if the second documentary from Maite Alberdi - whose first film, The Mole Agent, was nominated for an Oscar in 2021 - is a major contender for the Best Documentary Film Oscar next year.

The Eternal Memory is a profile of a Chilean couple - famous journalist Augusto and renowned actress Paulina - as they wrestle with Augosto's Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis.

This isn't a cheery, feel-good documentary, but it's also not a resolutely depressing experience either, filled with hope while movingly depicting the couple's devotion to one another.

Intimately shot largely within the couple's own home, this is a testament to the power of low-fi documentary filmmaking.

The Eternal Memory will release later this year.
