Sundance Film Festival 2023: 20 Movies You Need To Know About

1. A Little Prayer

Talk to Me
Sony Pictures Releasing

Its central drama might sound simple, even trite on pure synopsis alone, but A Little Prayer's straight-forward throughline lays the groundwork for some seriously heavyweight performances.

David Strathairn stars as Bill, who learns that his son (Will Pullen) is having an affair, and being as fond of his daughter-in-law Tammy (Jane Levy) as he is, isn't at all happy about it.

But writer-director Angus MacLachlan avoids the most treacly, melodramatic trappings you might well be expecting, opting for an altogether quieter film which allows the entire cast to excel - especially the devastating Strathairn and Levy, who depict the sort of relationship rarely explored in cinema.

A Little Prayer will release later this year.
