Sundance Film Festival 2023: 20 Movies You Need To Know About

17. Birth/Rebirth

Talk to Me
Shudder

Birth/Rebirth has historically been a fertile ground for horror films to build up buzz prior to their wider release, and with any luck Birth/Rebirth will be on everybody's lips once it's out in the wild.

Laura Moss' impressive feature debut stars Judy Reyes as a recently bereaved mother who comes to learn that a morgue technician (Marin Ireland), who is experimenting in reanimating the dead, might be the key to undoing her tragic loss.

As silly as it might sound on paper, Birth/Rebirth is a genuinely unnerving character-driven horror film that digs deep into the psychology of its two tortured protagonists.

Reyes and Ireland are both fantastic here as two women struggling to tame nature and the eventuality of all that entails. It's not for the faint of stomach, but a gruelling ride well worth taking for fans of smart, socially conscious horror.

Birth/Rebirth will release on Shudder later this year.
