Sundance Film Festival 2023: 20 Movies You Need To Know About
14. Polite Society
Nida Manzoor's (We Are Lady Parts) feature debut is a damn blast. Priya Kansara stars as Ria Khan, a British-Pakistani teen with aspirations of becoming a stuntwoman.
But when Ria's sister (Ritu Arya) drops her artist dreams to hastily get married to a wealthy man, Ria decides that she must intervene and perform a heist to kidnap her sis from her own wedding.
It's a riotous concept and one which Manzoor executes with style and heart. Comparisons to the filmography of Edgar Wright - especially Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - are inevitable, but Manzoor's script is plenty witty in its own right, while Kansara and Arya give terrifically charming performances.
Polite Society will release later this year.
