Superman vs. Batman Movie: 5 Reasons It Might Not Work

3. You Can€™t Shake Off Christopher Nolan€™s Influence So Soon

Chris Nolan Batman It seems Warner Bros' are leaning on the established tropes of yesteryear with the new flick, going with the same idea The Incredible Hulk had back in 2008 i.e. not spending time establishing a character that has already had a filmic origin story within the last decade. That being said the reason Incredible Hulk worked (to some degree) was that their was already one extended scene of Hulk out in the desert getting his smash on, therefore the spiritual-successor link between films is not an issue being that we already associate that level of carnage with the character. That's besides the fact that (sorry Hulk fanboys) he's just not as intricate a character as Batman, at least not to a mainstream audience. Therefore if you're going to bring Batman into essentially a newer, less-grounded-in-reality franchise, yet aren't taking the time to do a separate film, the only substance to fill the blanks left behind are the Nolan films. We do know that Nolan's trilogy is a separate entity, which might work to this film's favour if it's possible to immediately establish a tone that separates Man of Steel's universe with that of The Dark Knight. Until we see some trailers it's going to be hard to definitively say, but the general mindset at the minute is that the latter half of Man of Steel is world's away from anything we've seen in any Batman films (Of course, forgoing the existence of Batman & Robin).
