6. Lex Luthor Will Be Our Movie Villain
At a fan event for the launch of Zack Snyder's first Superman film, 'Man Of Steel', the director commented "At its core, Superman is an alien. He comes from an alien world ... Lex loves to call him an alien." And Kevin Smith retorted, "That's a spoiler, folks". While Smith's comment has been taken by some to be a sly will they/won't they teaser, he has played a reasonably straight bat so far with the release of information and so can be trusted as a reliable source of information. Had Smith not have added the confirmation, we couldn't have said with any certainty that Lex Luther would make more than a minor appearance but it would appear to be safe to assume that we now have our movie villain. This also ties in with one of Snyder's denials of a Dark Knight Returns storyline, noting that this was Batman in Superman's world and vice versa. It appears unlikely that any of Batman's nemeses will appear in the film, so Luthor was always going to be the inevitable-and correct-choice of villain. Many names are already flying about the rumour mill as to who will play Luthor, with Mark Strong and Bryan Cranston being cited as favourites with both bookies and fans alike. However, the Superman Super Site have suggested (from source information) that actor Terry O'Quinn, best known for his portrayal as John Locke in 'Lost' is on the short list of actors being considered for the role. An excellently menacing choice if I do say so myself. Watch this space fans!
