Ever since Superman V Batman was announced there has been major speculation about the plot being adapted from Frank Miller's 'The Dark Knight Returns' and with good right too as Warner Bros, in what was a deliberate move to churn the rumour mill, introduced their announcement with a somewhat memorable reading from the graphic novel: "I want you to remember, Clark. In all the years to come. In all your most private moments. I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you." However in an interview with DC All Access, Zack Snyder stated it definitely would not be an adaption of the graphic novel. Kevin Smith waded in and said "I don't want to see and I don't think Zack's trying to do Frank Miller's 'The Dark Knight Returns'...That will deserve its own movie, and god willing one day he's going to do it. Somebody's going to get there, and if anybody is going to get there it's him". The Dark Knight Returns is one of the greatest story arcs of the Batman series and would undoubtedly work incredibly well as a film. However, any thoughts of this film being a direct lift from that storyline were stilted with Affleck's casting as Batman-the actor is simply too young to portray a 55 year old Batman, as is the case in the comic. This is not to say that elements from that storyline won't appear throughout Superman V Batman, of course. Parts of the story from The Dark Knight Rises were influenced from Miller's work, such as Batman faking his own death. How much of an influence ...Returns has on the latest film won't become clear until July 2015.
