Predator: Badlands is inarguably the funniest film in the sci-fi horror franchise, and so it quite fittingly concludes on an amusing little grace note after Predator runt Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) defeats his father, Njohrr (Reuben de Jong).

Just as Njohrr's underlings attempt to avenge their fallen leader, the scene is interrupted by the arrival of an alien spaceship, and just as Thia (Elle Fanning) speculates on whether the ship is friendly or not, Dek reveals that it belongs to his mother.

At that moment we abruptly cut to black and the end credits roll, and because we never catch a glimpse of Dek's mother nor learn precisely where her allegiance lies, it's nothing if not an enticing ending to leave the audience wanting more.

We were all so fixated on the feud between Dek and his father that most viewers probably never even spared a thought for his mum.

But director Dan Trachtenberg has stated a desire to reveal what Dek's mother looks like in a potential Badlands sequel, so hopefully it'll happen sooner rather than later.
