Honestly, why would anyone expect much from a Now You See Me sequel at this point?

The threequel in a consistently mediocre franchise that's baffingly coming out almost a full decade after the previous film suggests it's little more than one last attempt to milk the ageing cash cow before it dries up completely.

Yet Now You See Me: Now You Don't ultimately ended up scoring the best reviews of the series, delivering its most winning fusion of over-the-top magic-driven action and fun chemistry amid its ever-growing ensemble cast.

Now You See Me: Now You Don't saw the franchise firmly hit its stride with full self-awareness, delivering a rare legacy sequel-of-sorts which successfully paired the beloved original cast with some appealing new up-and-comers.

And perhaps even more surprisingly than all this, it performed well enough at the box office that a fourth film is now in the works.
