16. The Sheep Detectives

The Sheep Detectives certainly looked like a fun time from the marketing, and between its mighty ensemble cast and acclaimed source novel, it had the potential to be a compellingly weird mystery-comedy.

But nobody could've expected that Minions director Kyle Balda would turn in what's quite arguably the best family comedy since the legendary Paddington 2.

It looked good, for sure, but the marketing really didn't convey just how great The Sheep Detectives would turn out to be - wryly funny, sweet, and perfectly performed by both its live-action and voice cast.

A film about a flock of sheep trying to solve the murder of their beloved shepherd (Hugh Jackman) has basically no right being this genuinely affecting, and it's a testament to how seriously everyone involved took the assignment - even while never forgetting that fundamental kernel of fun.

Don't be surprised if this gets an entire generation of kids obsessed with murder mystery stories.
