Sylvester Stallone: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. Ray Quick - The Specialist (1995)

The 1990€™s were an odd time for Stallone. For every little gem, there were at least two duffers. In 1995 he would play a freelance hitman in the incredibly dull Assassins, a film so thrilling that I remember my mate €˜Big Al€™ enjoying it more than me, because he had the foresight to fall asleep in it. Only a year before though came the joy that was The Specialist, where Stallone also played a freelance hitman (seriously, quit the freelancing and get a full-time role at an assassination company), only this time he€™s an expert in explosives €“ ironic considering his performance is so wet it would likely put out any fuses he lit. Sly is Ray Quick, who strikes up a romance with Sharon Stone€™s mystery lady. I say "romance", the relationship is so wooden that the love scenes look like an adult version of the Ikea catalogue. Billed as two of the biggest stars in the hottest film of the year, the film was explosive like chronic diarrhea €“ and just as enjoyable.

I'm a Westcountry exile now living in Yorkshire with lovely wife and cats (also lovely). I'm a big fan of films, robots, timetravel, and films about timetravelling robots, as well as lots of other action, sci-fi and comedy. I'm currently trying to write a sitcom that doesn't involve robots, and I also blog nonsense on timolsky.blogspot.com. Thanks for taking the time to read my stuff, and feel free to comment.
