Taika Waititi's Films: Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Let's be honest, no one saw Taika Waititi directing the third Thor movie. Mainly because this was a director who had built a reputation for being somewhat of a auteur of low budget indie comedies, and not someone you'd expect to take the reigns of a mega budget blockbuster with an entire franchise hanging on it.
Thankfully, Hollywood and the huge Marvel budget were unable to dilute the trademark left-field Waititi humour that we've come to expect; and to no one's surprise he delivers the Marvel Universe's funniest film yet.
Although slightly let down by a rather formulaic superhero climax in the final 20 minutes, this big budget space opera was kept grounded by a tongue in cheek self deprecating humour that manages to laugh at the ridiculousness of itself, whilst never veering into parody.
Thor: Ragnarok in many ways is the first full-on comedy Marvel film. Yes there has always been a string of humour throughout the Marvel movies, but none have been as consistently belly-laugh funny as Ragnarok. We have Waititi (And the film-stealing Korg) to thank for that.
