Deciphering the Terminator timeline is almost impossible without a degree in quantum physics to your name, but James Cameron has saved the fans a headache by revealing exactly where T6 fits into the equation.
The new film will be a direct sequel to Judgement Day, taking place within its timeline for the most part. So this means it will disregard Terminators 3 through to 5.
This is a smart move considering the key players from the first two films are returning for T6. It seems fitting that it will pick up where the second movie left off, with doomsday averted and Skynet's plans to assassinate a young John Conner thwarted.
Terminator is at liberty to ignore sequels more easily than other series due to its time travel component. One journey to the past later and you've created a new reality.
