Terminator 6: Everything We Know So Far
2. T6 Will 'Reinvent' The Series
James Cameron has been speaking candidly about his plans for a sixth Terminator film long before one was officially announced and, during an interview over the summer, he outlined the depth and bredth of his ambition.
The man himself is keen to "reinvent" the flagging franchise with its next instalment, and while that sounds like one of those buzzwords directors use to get the hype machine going, he went on to elaborate.
Cameron believes the Terminator franchise is more relevant than ever today, in an age of artificial intelligence and mass surveillance, and his aim is to have T6 serve as a commentary on modern technology.
He told News.com.au...
“The question is - has the franchise run its course or can it be freshened up? Can it still have relevance now where so much of our world is catching up to what was science fiction in the first two films. We live in a world of predator drones and surveillance and big data and emergent AI."
Cameron certainly has a point about Terminator and its commentary about technological advancement being relevant today, but there is no shortage of other movies and TV shows which have explored the same pitfalls, from Ex Machina to the Black Mirror series.
