7. Misusing The Single Most Intriguing Plot Detail
Recycling fan-friendly moments is all well and good, but the most important part of Genisys' agenda to start a new series and make Paramount lots of money was always going to be the new elements. Without them being gripping and fitting satisfactorily into the established lore, the film would be just another false dawn.
The emergence of Matt Smith's new Terminator who claimed to be Skynet personified (in a moment very much ripped off from Star Trek's Borg Queen plot) was therefore a great start.
But then, just seconds after making his bow and attacking John Connor, Smith disappears for the next two hours, relegating the most intriguing idea (that Skynet has a leader) to an afterthought when it should have been front and centre.
