The 10 Animated Classics Disney WON'T Remake In Live Action
3. The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad
During World War II and the years after, Disney moved away from standard feature films, with most of its theatrical releases instead being two or three shorter films packaged together. Most of these won't be remade because they're mostly of-the-time shorts featuring the Disney animation staples (Micky and that lot - who will not get a live-action film), but the one that has marginal potential and I would like to look at is The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad.
Adapting Sleepy Hollow and Wind In The Willows, this is the best film from that era and boasts two stories that would fit very well as live-action films, especially the latter given how the animals and quaint British setting is very vogue right now. But it'll never happen.
The issue is not rival adaptations (Sleepy Hollow is famous contemporarily for Tim Burton's version and the TV series), but iconography - these two stories are fairly well known, but unlike most of the other tales on this list that's not to do with the Disney version. Walt brought quite a bit to Ichabod and Mr. Toad, but very little of it stuck in the cultural consciousness, so there'd be no brand advantage to Disney making a movie on it; they might as well tell any classic story.
